Online Camp 2020
With the work of our amazing volunteer squad and camp committee, we were able to create, edit, upload, and share over 50 educational and creative rock camp videos. We held Livestream performances (with a live Q&A) each day of camp, released “Artist of the Day” themed TikToks, and empowering workshops to provide our community with enriching content that can be shared forever!
Getting to create an online camp this year was such an exciting and challenging task, and we are so grateful to our community for embarking on this journey with us.
The experience of taking camp online was bittersweet. It was expressed between volunteers and campers that we wished we could be together in person this summer, but we knew it was the right decision to remain physically distant. It actually provided us new opportunities to connect and share with each other. Ultimately, we were all so happy to still have camp exist and we are looking forward to how we will continue to engage with our incredible community year-round.

How COVID-19 affects us:
Our camp is largely volunteer-run by members of our community – many of whom are artists, entertainers, teachers, and service industry workers being impacted economically during this time. We encourage you to send your support directly to those marginalized and impacted in our community.
We as an organization stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and work to dismantle systems of oppression.
About Gainesville Girls Rock Camp:
Mission Statement: Gainesville Girls Rock Camp is a non-profit that uses music and performance to uplift marginalized voices, encourage self-esteem, community, and self-expression in girls and gender-expansive youth.
GGRC usually functions as a week-long summer day camp that accepts regional youth aged 10-17 years old. Campers are taught to play an instrument and are placed into bands. With the encouragement of their camp counselors, each band writes a song which they ultimately perform at a live music venue downtown at a public showcase following camp for their friends and families.
Gainesville Girls Rock Camp is an actively anti-racist, LGBTQ+ organization. Any racist, transphobic, xenophobic, ableism, and/or homophobic statements will not be tolerated in our space. We hold ourselves, staff, board, and volunteer base to a high standard of excellent model behavior.
Gainesville Girls Rock Camp is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization staffed by womxn and gender-expansive volunteers. We value diversity in age, race, economic status, gender expression, size, physical ability, developmental ability, musical interests, learning styles, nationality, religion, thought, citizenship status, and sexual orientation. We promote respect and actively work to dismantle racism, sexism, homophobia, and other discriminatory behaviors and expressions. We are a member of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance and align our values with the GRCA Points of Unity.
